Emery Wayne Bemis
Oct. 1, 1915 - May 11, 2008

MISHAWAKA - On Mother's Day our father went home to be with our Mom. Emery was born on October 1, 1915, in Coalmont, IN, to Floyd and Bec Bemis; he was their first child. His parents and three of his siblings passed before him, Cora Bell, James Alvine and Ruby Bemis. Emery's wife of 56 years, Lora Bemis, passed away on August 19, 2007.

Left to cherish his memory are his four children, Dale (Toni) Bemis, Maxine (Mike) Davis, Deb Speybroeck and Rebecca Gosa; 16 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren. Also his sisters, Anna "Tish" Rehemel, John (Dorothy) Bemis, Rachel Bemis and Mary Bemis, along with many nieces and nephews.

Emery served in the Army during WWII in the Philippines and the 3 C's, and was a lifelong member of the V.F.W. Emery worked for Studebaker in 1942, and then he worked as a delivery driver for Seyferts Foods and Frito- Lay. Even after he retired he worked for South Bend Controls. Anyone who knew Emery knew how hard he worked, even hiring his friend Jim Spencer to help him work on a broken ankle one winter, still getting his route done. Emery loved his family home in Coalmont, IN. He loved to mushroom hunt and gardening, but most of all he loved to play poker or just about any card game. Emery always had a joke to tell you and was an expert at the gag jokes. The joke he played on his Mom one Christmas will always be remembered: he gave her a sack of potatoes with Silver Dollar taped on them. He had a garden that fed lots of family and friends. Our Dad, Emery, was often outspoken and called an Ace an Ace. We all knew that he loved us and he would have come through a brick wall for us if we needed help. We will miss him terribly but rejoice that he is with Mother where he longed to be. We love you Daddy! You have truly earned your rest.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14, in the Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main St., Mishawaka. The funeral service will follow the visitation at 1 p.m. Burial will be at the Fairview Cemetery in Mishawaka. Memorial contributions may be made to the Riley's Children Hospital. A Dad For All Seasons He's the guy with the hand That can paddle or pat Who can teach a small boy How to swing a bat, A shoulder so broad There's room for us all Always there to give comfort When he hears the call The one that we turn to When zippers are stuck, When Faucets are leaking, When we need a buck The guy who comes through When others won't bother He was some special man, He was some kind of father
