Born in Ffairfach, Llandeilofawr, emigrated with his parents George and Elizabeth (nee Ambrose) and 4 siblings arriving at Castle Garden on March 9th 1852. Served in the 56th Ohio regiment in the Civil War. Married Mary and settled in New Orleans until late 1890 when he moved to Washington DC working in the pensions bureau.
