Cornelius Lahue was the son of William and Hannah Lahue. William, the son of Peter and Francis Allen Lehew, was born about 1745 in Frederick County, Virginia and died before February 11, 1812 in Wythe County, Virginia. Hannah was born about 1745 and died before 1810 in Wythe County, Virginia. William and Hannah were married about 1766 in Frederick County, Virgina.

Cornelius' grandfather was Peter Lehew, the son of Nicolas Lehugh who immigrated from France in 1670 and Mary Lehugh. Peter was the founder of Lehewtown, now Front Royal, Virginia.

Cornelius migrated from Frederick County, Virginia to Wythe County, Virginia with his parents about 1792. He was named as a son in the Wythe County will of his father, William Lehew. His name last appears in records in Wythe County in 1814 and for the first time in Harrison County, Indiana in 1817. In 1835, Cornelius and Spencer Lahew of Harrison County, Indiana, deeded land in Wythe County, Virginia to Isaac Lahew of Wythe County.

Cornelius married Sabrina Batman (or Bateman) about 1818. Sabrina was born December 13, 1891 in Kentucky and died January 26, 1861 in Harrison County, Indiana. They had 12 children:

Norben (1823-1848)
Carrington (1825-1889) married Catherine Brubeck

As can be seen above, LaHue has many different spellings and others are evident in documents, making documentation challenging and extremely important.
