MISS BAMA BYRD IS FOUND DEAD IN BILOXI HOME
The body of a 57 year old woman, believed dead since Saturday night, was found in her home in Biloxi Monday night by her sister.
A coroner's jury termed the death due to natural causes.
The woman was Miss Bama Byrd, 57, 207 Kensington Dr., who operated a gift and novelty shop in Biloxi in Eddie's Drug Store.
According to Biloxi police, who were called on the case at 8:50 p.m.; the body was discovered by Mrs. Herman E. deVries, 740 W. Beach, Pass Christian, sister of the deceased.
Detectives Leslie Montgomery, and Louis Rosetti and assistant chief Walter Williams said that Miss Byrd had been under a doctor's care for a heart condition.
The body was taken to the Bradford Funeral Home where Harrison County Coroner Frank Hightower empaneled a jury and held the inquest. Baliff was Constable John Gill and jurors were Fred B. Rounsaville, Paul Bradford, Rether Griffin, Shirley Lee, H.E. Cumberland and Norman Scarborough.
Miss Byrd was a native of Jackson county and had been in Biloxi 32 years.
She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. deVries and Mrs. G. Albert Woodard, New York.
Miss Byrd was a past matron of Ann Grayson Chapter Eastern Star and is a past district deputy grand matron of the Eastern Star. At the time of her death she was a grand representative of the grand chapter to the state of Louisiana.
Miss Byrd was a former Biloxi school teacher, having taught at Howard 2 school. Prior to opening her gift shop she had been employed by the county as a welfare worker.
She was educated in public schools at Vancleave and Centenary College. She has taken special work at Mississippi Southern College while a school teacher.
The remains will be taken from the funeral home at 1:15 p.m. for graveside religious and Eastern Star services in Byrd Cemetery, Vancleave.
