While out for a stroll in Canton Saturday morning, Nelson Ramie, 75 year old Ogdensburg man who had been living there with a son, Joseph, was stricken with a heart attack and collapsed on the walk in front of his home at 18 Court Street. He was pronounced dead at 11:50am. The body was brought to the Lalonde Funeral Home in Ogdensburg.
Services will be from the residence of his son, Nelson, 424 Grant St, Tuesday at 8:30 and a half hour later at Notre Dame Church.
Born in Ogdensburg April 19, 1873, he was a son of Alfonse and Zoe Belfy Ramie. His father was an employee of the Skillings, Whitneys and Barnes Lumber Co. and a former Republican alderman for the Fourth Ward. His marriage to Miss Victoria Girard took place at Notre Dame Church Nov 10, 1897 with the Rev. P. O. Larose officiating. His wife died May 6, 1944. He was employed by the SW&B until it went out of business and with the Standard Shade Roller Company until he retired in 1942. He went to live with his son in Canton after his wife expired.
He was an industrious, honorable and progressive citizen and had many friends. He was a member of Notre Dame parish and Franco-American club of Ogdensburg.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Howard Chapman, Corinth; Mrs. James Miller, Mrs. Edward Martin, and Mrs. Clifford Tynon, City; three sons, Francis, Brentwood; Joseph, Canton; Nelson, Ogdensburg; three sisters, Mrs. David Brennan, Mrs. Alfred Corrice, Ogdensburg; Mrs. Fred Daniels, Brewster; a brother, Edgar, Ogdensburg; grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews and nieces.
