F. H. Brown, 70, Retired Inventor, Dies

F. Herbert Brown, 70, of 6 Maplewood Avenue, retired inventor and formerly engaged in the wholesale material business, died this morning at the House of Mercy after a long illness.

Born in Washington, D.C., son of Brig. Gen. and Mrs. Theodore Brown, he had lived in Pittsfield six years. Br. Brown was formerly associated with the late Thomas A. Edison and invented the lathe used on motor transports in France during World War I. He was formerly secretary of the Building Materials Association of Westchester County, N.Y., and conducted his business in White Plains. Survivors are his widow and a daughter, Miss Dorothy Brown of White Plains.

The body reposes at the McBride Funeral Home in Adams where the funeral will probably be Wednesday morning. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery in that town.
