Lieutenant Royal Navy. Son of Edward Hyde, 1st Earl of Clarendon, and his wife, Frances (Aylesbury) Hyde, Countess of Clarendon. His sister, Anne, was married to James Stuart, Duke of York. The Royal Navy ship, H.M.S. Gloucester, was carrying the Duke and his retainers to Scotland. On the night of May 5/6, 1682, the vessel was wrecked on a sandbar off Yarmouth, England. Other ships in the convoy managed to rescue other people, including the Duke. However, between130-250 sailors and passengers were lost, including Lt. Hyde.
