It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Carma Long, who left this earthly realm on September 27, 2023. She was a cherished member of our family, a devoted follower of the Lord, Jesus Christ, a loving wife to her husband, Joel Reed, and a dedicated mother to five children, a grandmother to 13 and great grandmother to 21.
She was born on August 8, 1926 in Glendale, Idaho to Fred and Eva Wanner. She had one sister and two brothers as well as 8 step brothers and sisters.
Carma was a loving and independent woman with a beautiful smile and the prettiest hair. She had a talent for turning simple ingredients into a feast and was known for her hard work and dedication to her family. She and her Husband Reed spent about 20 winters in their home in San Carlos, Mexico, but were always so grateful to come back their home in beautiful Cub River.
Carma was a woman of remarkable talent and creativity. Her passion for art was evident in every stroke of her brush and every piece of her work. She had the unique ability to capture beauty in all things and translate it onto her canvas.
Carma's winters in San Carlos, Mexico were filled with volunteer work. She spent countless hours as the club librarian and contributed to the art league, teaching and assisting with various tasks. Carma was an accomplished artist, with several of her paintings displayed in the San Carlos museum. One of her notable works was a painting of Christ that adorned the walls of the Mapleton Ward for many years, dedicated to the Lord during the building's dedication.
Her devotion to her faith as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was a guiding light in her life. She found strength, solace, and community within her local congregation wherever they dwelt. She and her husband also represented the church on a mission to Osorno Chile.
But perhaps her greatest source of joy was her family. She shared an enduring love story with Reed, spanning almost 60 years. On the Cub River, together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and shared dreams. Their bond was a testament to the power of love and commitment, inspiring all who knew them.
She is survived by her three sons David and his wife Janet, Michael and his wife FernEtta, and Bryan Long, as well as her two cherished daughters, Debi and her husband Steve Young, and Norita and her husband Dave Stricker. Carma also leaves behind 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Joel Reed Long, grandson Joshua Bryan Long, and great-grandson Brydon Thomas Ransom.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at 11:00 AM at the Mapleton (Cub River) Church, 5307 E. Cub River Road, Preston, Idaho. Viewings will be held Friday from 6-8 pm at Webb Funeral Home, 1005 S. 800 E. Preston, Idaho and again prior to the viewing from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Mapleton Idaho Cemetery.
