She taught in a one-room country school in Tazewell County, Ill., from 1941 until 1943.
On May 23, 1942, in New London, Mo., she was married to Fred Corbett. Shortly after her marriage, she took time out from her career to raise a family of five children.
She returned to teaching at South Pekin Grade School in 1964 and taught until her retirement in 1981.
During World War II, she worked at the Caterpillar plant in East Peoria, Ill., as a "Rosie the Riveter" to help in the war effort.
She is survived by two sons, Vernon Corbett and Herb (Kathy) Corbett; three daughters, Judie (Kim) Leverenz, Becky (Greg) Kelly and Rose (Mark) Richards; 11 grandchildren, Aimee (Jason) Brown, Nathan (Michele) Kelly, Erin Kelly, Elizabeth (Chet) Leamon, Joleen Corbett, Christopher Corbett and his fiance, Sally Nguyen, Amelia Corbett, Michele (Jeffery) Robertson, Mary McDaniel, Trisha (Rodolfo) Luna and Stephanie Leverenz; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and other family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Herb Morgenthaler; a sister, Dena Orrell; a grandson, Richard H. Corbett; and by her husband, Fred Corbett, who died in 1972.
