First Generation Native US Citizen, Beloved Mother, and Grandmother.

Marie Christine DeMatteis Creddo was born Jun 30th, 1909 in Chicago, Illinois to Giovanni "John" DeMatteis Sr. and Maria Saveria DeMatteis (née Vassallo), the fourth of five children. Her father was a Tailor and her mother was a Homemaker. Marie's parents immigrated from Italy in 1886 and 1896 making Marie and her four siblings first-generation native-born US Citizens. Her siblings were John Samuel DeMatteis (1906-1906), Giovanni Samuele DeMatteis Jr. (b. 1910), Dorothy "Dora" M DeMatteis (b. 1915), and George Benito DeMatteis (b. 1923).

Marie grew up in Chicago, Illinois where she lived with her parents and siblings. The children attended school there and learned to read and write. In the early 1930s, her family moved from Chicago to 187 S Leonard Street in Waterbury, CT. A few years later the family moved to 19 3rd Street in Waterbury, CT where Marie lived with her family until she was 23. During that time, the older children began careers with Marie starting a job as an Inspector at a Paper Box Co. (sp?). Marie's parents continued to live at 19 3rd Street until her father passed away in 1960.

Marie married Louis Anthony Creddo on the 19th of July 1941 in Waterbury, Connecticut. The couple took up residence at 1158 Bank Street in Waterbury. While living at Bank Street the couple welcomed two children: Gloria Mae Creddo (b. 1943) and Carol Louise Creddo (b. 1947). From 1948 to 1954 the family moved multiple times living on Judson Circle, Warner Place, and Boyden Street before settling on 49 Harvard Street in 1955. The couple divorced in 1962 and Marie stayed at 49 Harvard Street.

Marie's two daughters married in the early 1960s and moved out to start their own families.

In 1967, Marie married John Castelano (b. Abt. 1915). They eventually moved to 116 NW Austin Avenue in Port Charlotte Florida where the couple lived together until Marie died in 1985.

Marie died of breast and bone cancer in Port Charlotte, Florida on the 29th of December 1985 at age 67. Marie was survived by her second husband, two daughters, and seven grandchildren. She was interred with her family in Calvary Cemetery in Waterbury, CT later in 1985.
