William Thomas Arnold was born in Georgia on July, 9 1840 to Anderson A Arnold and Sarah Devaney (Cain) Arnold) and like so many others during that time he grew up on the farm.
William married Georgia Ann Shaw in Gwinnett County, Georgia on March 17, 1859. They had seven children born to them. The family was engaged in farming at the time the war started.
William enlisted as a private in the CSA on March 4, 1862. He was assigned to Company "B", of the 42nd Georgia Infantry Regiment. William survived the war and he was mustered out on April 26, 1865 in Greensboro, North Carolina.
After the war, the family continued to farm the land in Gwinnett, Fulton, and Dekalb counties Georgia.
William suffered from senility later in life. He died in Fulton County, Georgia on October 28, 1925 about 4 years after his wife Georgia died. He was 85 years old.
