Mr. Daniel C. Cannon, 80, of Ocala, died Sunday, May 4, 2008, at his residence. A native of McAlpin, Fl., he moved to this area in 1964, coming here from Fernandina Beach. Mr. Cannon worked as a Florida State Trooper for over 32 years. After his retirement, he continued working at the Kandy Kane Christmas Tree Farm in Anthony. He was an avid golfer, and his memberships include the American Legion, the Mid Florida Officials Association, and the Florida Highway Patrol Retirees Association. Mr. Cannon proudly served his country in the US Army. He was a member of Anthony First Baptist Church for many years.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Joyce Williams Cannon, daughters Cheryll D. Cannon, Joyce Ann Priest (Doug), sons Daniel C. Cannon, III (Paula), Williams Robert Cannon (Lori), sister Myrtis Avery, granddaughters Leslie Ann Priest, Kelly Cannon Tingler (Jim), Katherine Elizabeth Cannon, Rebecca Nicole Cannon, grandsons Captain Daniel Bryan Cannon, Clayton Douglas Priest (Andrea), and Daniel Christopher Cannon. He was preceded in death by his parents, and 12 brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at Anthony First Baptist Church. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5-7 PM at HIERS FUNERAL HOME, 910 SE Silver Springs Blvd., Ocala. Interment will be in Anthony Cemetery. The two favorite charities of the Cannon family are the Salvation Army, PO Box 3628 and Hospice of Marion County, PO Box 4860, Ocala, Fl. 34478.
