Calculating from his death date, he was born in 1711, in Germany. He may have emigrated from Germany to Maryland in 1748. At the time of the marriages of his sons Nicholas and Christian (in 1773 and 1774), it appears that the family was living on Israel's Creek, which in church records was the name of the area where Rocky Hll Lutheran Church is located today, near Woodsboro in Frederick County MD.

He was married to Eva Margareth Graeber in 1738; they are listed as sponsors for a baptism at Evangelical Lutheran Church in Frederick, in 1771. According to some sources, he may have been previously married to Magdalena Nash in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, in 1732.

Known children of Jacob and Eva Margareth were: Mary (1738-1822), John Phillip (1743-1833), Johann Heinrich (1748-1788), Christian (1748-____), and Nicholas (1755-1840).

Their son Johann Nicholas Fry is recognized by the NSSAR as a Patriot of the American Revolution (P-162677), on account of his service in the "German Regiment" of the Maryland Continental Line.

Their son John Phillip Fry married Dorothea Boger. They were the great-grandparents of Orville and Wilbur Wright.

Jacob Frye is listed as having paid the Personal Property Tax, including the Supply Tax for support of the revolutionary armed forces. in Loudoun County for 1782 and 1783, for which he is recognized as a Patriot of the American Revolution by the Sons of the American Revolution.

When New Jerusalem Lutheran Church began keeping a separate register from the mother church in Frederick, the first entry in the Burial Register (as translated and transcribed) is: "Jacob Freu, buried October 9, 1785, aged 74 years, 2 months, and 4 days."
