ABINGDON -- Bertha L. Roberts, 87, of Abingdon died at 8:28 p.m. Tuesday, June 8, 1993, at her daughter's home near Hermon.

Born March 19, 1906, in Warren County to Hugh and Mary Nixon Morris, she married Marion Roberts on July 21, 1923, in Monmouth. He died July 9, 1980. She also was preceded in death by one granddaughter, one great-great-grandson, four brothers and seven sisters.

Surviving are three sons, George M. of Galesburg, and Raymond and Ivan, both of Knoxville; one daughter, Mrs. Lester (Vivian) Combs of Hermon; 17 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; 14 great- great-grandchildren; and one brother, Frank Morris of Abingdon.

In 1937, she and her husband moved from Smithfield to the London Mills area, where they farmed. They retired in January 1969 and moved to Abingdon, where she was a member of Abingdon Christian Church.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hinchliff-Pearson- West Abingdon Chapel. The Rev. Raymond McLaren will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the chapel. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Abingdon Ambulance Service or the American Cancer Society.
