MULLENS, SEPT. 27 -- Albert Boston Robertson, Wyoming County's first undertaker will be buried Tuesday in the family cemetery at his native Thessalia near Pearisburg in Giles County, Va.
"Uncle Bert," as he was affectionately known to his many friends and acquaintances, died at 8:10 p.m. Saturday at his Pineville home. He was 73.
Born Sept 5, 1880, the son of Henry and Ann Robertson, he had resided in Wyoming County [WV] 42 years, coming to Herndon in 1911 to manage a store for the Guyan Lumber Company of Beartown.
Three years later he moved to Mullens to accept employment with a grocery concern, and in 1916, after attending embalming school at Bluefield, launched the county's first undertaking establishment at Mullens, [WV].
He was one of the original organizers of the Robertson and Foglesong Funeral Home and an active member of the firm until May 5 when he fell, breaking his hip.
Aside from his duties with the funeral home he had served as a member of the Wyoming County Court for 11 consecutive years, being elected for his first six-year term in 1942.
He was a member of the Methodist Church and the Mullens Masonic Lodge. He moved from Mullens to Pineville, [WV] in 1937.
Surviving are his wife, Minnie; a son, Arvid, of Mullens; two daughters, Mrs. Charles Dameron, Canvas, and Mrs. Evelyn Kidd, Washington, D. C.; three brothers, Early, Princeton, Victor, Athens, and Tyler, Thessalia; three sisters, Mrs. K. J. Heatherman, Huntington, Mrs. R. C. Carr, Mullens, and Mrs. Bowman Stafford, Staffordsville, Va.; and 10 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Pineville Methodist Church with Rev. A. R. Young officiating. The body will remain in the chapel of the Robertson and Foglesong Funeral Home until 9:30 a.m. Tuesday when it will be removed to the church.
