Charles Ware was a police bicycle patrol officer who responded to a disturbance at the O'Key's Saloon near Georgia and East Streets in Indianapolis on April 28, 1897. When Officer Ware arrived on the scene, he found a gang calling themselves the Bungaloos involved in a fight. During Officer Ware's arrest of John Ferriter, one of the gang members, Ferriter pulled a gun and fatally shot the Ware in the head. The gunman was arrested by another police officer a short distance from the scene of the crime.
