Howdy Denise:

I found your info on Samuel Jesse Seeley, who is buried at Williamsburg Cemetery near Acme, MI. I am a very distant cousin and had the fortune of finding a lot of info on Sam.

He was born 9 Aug 1873 in Williamsburg; died 21 Feb 1940 in Elk Rapids. He had a number of different jobs on as a barber, farmer, and fuel supplier. Here is a transcription of his Obit from the Record Eagle 24 April 1956.

From Traverse City Record Eagle, April 24, 1956, page 15, IT HAPPENED IN 1931 - 25 YEARS AGO TODAY The misses Blanche and Ruth Wares are guests at the home of their aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Seeley, of Elk Rapids.

From obituary in Grand Rapids Press: Samuel J. Seeley, aged 66 of Elk Rapids died at home of his brother in law, Edward Linderleas, of Traverse City. Mr. Seeley was the Standard Oil Co. representative at Elk Rapids for 14 years. Previously he had operated a barber shop. Surviving are the widow, Miriam; two daughters, Mrs. M.A. Crawford of Detroit, Mrs. George Buckler of Williamsburg; three brothers, George of California, Chancy of Williamsburg and Leman of Grand Rapids; one sister William Hall of Pontiac. Burial in Maple Grove Cemetery, Elk Rapids.

I was given a wallet of Sam's and gave it to a cousin who is living in FL. She in turn gave me a bunch of info on this very large family of Seeley's. We are descended of Lt. Robert Seeley of Winthrop Fleet 1630. These folks are related to me through Samuel Seeley who died at the Battle of Ridgefield during the Rev. War fighting the British along side Gen. Benidick Arnold. He is one of eight colonial soldiers buried in a memorial there. This Samuel was the younger brother to my ancester Hezekiah Seeley.

I noticed you didn't have any info on him, and wanted to help out my fellow researchers.

Hope this helps,

Paul Seeley
