Elk Rapids Progress of 5-16-1901

Last week Monday C. S. McLaughlin in company with Rev. L. S. Brooke rode to Follett's pond and put in the day in search of speckled beauties returning home in the evening carrying his catch of fish. Riding at a good rate of speed descending the hill just north of the residence of Lowell Sours he ran into a sand hole and took a header tearing his clothes and scratching his limbs.
He, however, paid no attention to this at the time but upon his return home he complained of the fall which his father, J. J. McLaughlin thinks now was instrumental in aggravating the inflammation which caused his death.

C. S. McLaughlin was born in Elk Rapids township August 11th, 1862, being 38 years and 9 months old at time of his death. He was married Sept. 12th, 1887, to Miss A. May Lombard, who, with two children, Charles J. aged 12 and Frank L. aged ten, are left to mourn...
