Came with his parents to the Grand Traverse region when he was 12 years of age, and he was a continuous resident since that time. Few men knew the local history of this locality as did Mr. Case. His 66 years of living in the northern portion of Grand Traverse County and southern portion of Antrim County covered a period of progress and improvement which converted the woodlands into productive fields, the county trails into good roads, the wooded sections into rich farms and the log cabins into handsome farm dwellings. It covered the period when the stage gave place to the railroad, the tallow candles to the kerosene lamps, when the electric light and telephone were introduced in this north county. in fact, it would be almost impossible to relate the wonderful improvements that came into common use under his observation during the years he spent on his farms in northern Michigan. This fact made him a local historian, to whom men went for data referring to those years that are past.

Mr. Case was the last of a family of 13 who now with the father and mother are all gone. He was twice married. First to Clara Merrill. Ten years later, on Oct. 31, 1867, he married Emeline Stites the wife who survives him. Of this union three children were born: Maggie Case, who died at the age of 16; Charles who died in infancy and Oren Henry Case who with his mother live on the farm. Buried in Maple Grove Cemetery.
