Son of Solomon Case and Sally Finch. He served as a fireman about the "Siren" from September 1864 through June 1865 during the Civil War. After the war, the Case family lived in Green, Mecosta County, Michigan, where Oren worked as a common laborer. The family moved to Whitewater, Grand Traverse County by 1880 and operated a farm in Long Lake township in 1900.

Oren died from pneumonia in Long Lake township. His obituary appeared on the front page of the Evening Record on February 5, 1909:

Oren C. Case, one of the oldest settlers of this region and a man respected by all with whom he became acquainted, died at his home at Long Lake at 5:15 this morning. He had been ill but one week, a complication of diseases ending a life which has been filled with the many adversities common to the lives of the country's early settlers. Mr. Case was born in Kalamazoo, March 9, 1844, but when only nine years of age he moved with his family to Elk Rapids, where they lived for some time. Mr. Case was married to Katherine A. Curtis of Long Lake 42 years ago, and a short time later they moved to Kalamazoo, his former home. In 1875 they moved back to this region, settling at Williamsburg, returning to Long Lake 18 years ago, where they have since resided.

Mr. Case was a sailor in the war of the rebellion, seeing fighting on board the battleship Siren. He enlisted in 1863 and was discharged the following year. His record for that time he was in the war was very creditable, and reflected very highly upon the true charter of the man.

Besides his wife, Mr. Case leaves nine children, the father being the first to go. Last Wednesday they were all together at the home for the last reunion although at that time it was not realized that the end of the father's life was so near. The children are: Chas. H. Case a farmer at Long Lake, Oliver E. Case an employee of the Hannah & Lay Mercantile Co. of this city; Mrs. Agnes Wares of Long Lake; Eugene C. Case a farmer at Long Lake; I. H. Case of Long Lake; L. W. Case, chef at the Elks' club; Orin S. and Robert Ray Case, who live at home and Miss Flossie Case with the Place of this City.

Mr. Case was a member of the McPherson Post of this city.
