Samuel J Manuwal was born May 7 1918 on a homestead eighteen miles southwest of Limon, CO, to Frank and Dora (Phend) Manuwal. He was hospitalized December 25, 1972 at Rocky Mountain Hospital, Denver, CO, after suffering a series of heart attacks. Sam passed away January 28, 1973 at the age of 54 years, 8 months 21 days. Sam attended Hopewell School, then moved to Simla in 1940. He was united in marriage to Miss Ethel May Pearson on September 9 1945 at Simla, CO where they raised their family; two daughters, Nancy Lee and Debra May. Sam became a member of the United Methodist Church of Simla on April 18 1954. He had a wonderful sense of humor. Sam was preceded in death by his mother, Dora; his father-in-law, Clarence A Pearson; one brother-in-law, Charles Cauling; and one niece. He left to mourn his passing his wife, Ethel May; daughter Nancy Lee (Delbert) Nicks; daughter Debra May (Ronald) Wilson; three grandchildren, Timothy Nicks, Tracy Nicks and Ryan Wilson; his father, Frank Manuwal; his sisters, Elizabeth Troyer, Roma Engle, Betty Sheesley and Edna Cauling; also nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. Funeral services were held at the United Methodist Church Simla, CO, Thursday February 1 1973 at 2:00pm with the Rev Rex Sample officiating. Casket bearers were Russell Carneal, Harold Dole, Thomas Grokett, Leslie West, John Kocera and Elmer Flickinger. Honorary casket bearers were Bill King, Donald Hutches, Virgil Richardson, Eddie Ager, Harold Niblock, Theodore Altstadt, George Isgar and Carl Sykes Sr. Interment was made in the Simla Cemetery with the Love Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
