Mary Ann Holding, daughter of Daniel Holding and Sarah Middleton, was born in Whixall, Shropshire, England. Her parents were LDS Converts in 1842 and immigrated to Utah 1853 in the Cyrus H. Wheelock Company but returned to England in 1854 where Mary Ann was born in 1856 and her father Daniel died in 1857.
Mary Ann and her mother Sarah immigrated back to Utah in 1875 aboard the ship Dakota. Mary Ann met Bedson Eardley aboard the ship and they were married 8 May 1876 in the Salt Lake Endowment House.
They were the parents of seven children, two sons died as children, Bedson and James. Their other children were Edward Holding Eardley, Frank Holding Eardley, Arthur Holding Eardley, Sarah Louisa Pace and Alice Elizabeth Obray.
