Abraham Lincoln Gardner was the son of Cornelius L. and Leah Louisa Worster Gardner. He was the oldest of fifteen known children.

On May 5, 1886 he married Amanda Louise Remling. They had six known children: Emma Elizabeth, Edward Otto, Eva Mae, Edith A., William McKinley, and Ray Arthur.

After the death of his first wife, he married Amanda Long Davis.

Abe worked for the railroad around the turn of the 20th century. He farmed in later life.
