Jimmy Ray Parker, 76, a longtime resident of the Simpson community and Vernon Parish, died April 22, 2008. Jimmy was the son of Byron and Bessie Galloway Parker. He grew up in the Simpson community and graduated from Simpson High School. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Simpson. After graduating high school he worked as a medical technician, advancing into hospital management and administration. Jimmy retired from Byrd Hospital in Leesville where he served as Administrator. He was also a licensed Radiography Technologist and Medical Technologist. Jimmy was married first to Annie Jones, they had three sons, and after this marriage ended he later married Bernice Behan. Jimmy loved the people of his church and of the Simpson community as his family and was well loved by them in return.
Jimmy Parker was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Behan Parker, by his parents, by his sons, Roger Dale, Gene Edwin, and Jimmy "Butch" Paker, by his step son, Tony Chance, and by his brother, Robert L. Parker. Survivors included step children, Carol Hetland of Leesville and Richard Chance of Wyoming; grandchildren, Amy Broussard of Simpson, Thomas Byron Parker, USMC, stationed in Missouri, Cory Parker of Baton Rouge and Anya Parker of Alexandria; Aunt, Gladys Bryant of California along with a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. The funeral services were at the First Assembly of God Church of Simpson followed by burial at Welcome Cemetery in Simpson.
