Shirley Rae Allen Jensen Hatch April 10, 1932, daughter of John Leonard Allen and Amy Leone Judd was born in Lethbridge, Alberta Canada.
The gospel was the center of her life" Her motto was "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart" and she lived her life emulating this scripture. She had strong faith and trusted in the Lord in all she did. She never wavered in her love for the Lord nor for her family. She was loved by all who met her.
Music was an important part of Shirley's life. From a young age, she was actively involved with the music federation in Canada and ultimately won 1st place in the Alberta Piano Competition. She was church organist in every ward she attended, which spanned over 70 years. As an accomplished accompanist, she played for soloists and choirs throughout the country. She also loved to teach piano which she did for decades. She was very involved with many professional musical organizations and traveled throughout the United States and China adjudicating piano competitions.
Whether writing inspiration letters to missionaries and friends, calling people for their birthdays, making quilts for loved ones or lending a helping hand to strangers and friends; serving was an important part of Shirley's life.
She made friends where ever she went and with whomever she met. She would genuinely ask questions about a newly made friend preferring not to speak of herself.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Mark Jensen (1928-1970) to whom 7 children were born:
Mark Allen Jensen (Nancy), David Allen Jensen (Jodi), Shirlene Dymock (Paul), Kathleen van de Graaff (Peter), Deanne Ohman (Kyle), Douglas Brian Jensen (Amber) and Steven Allen Jensen (Trish).
She married Dereal Kent Hatch (1925-2017) and treated his 8 children as her own. She also leaves many beloved grandchildren and great
"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding" Proverbs 3:5
grandchildren as well as her two brothers Richard John Allen (Carol) and Robert Grant Allen (Daryl).
Shirley was proud of her heritage and skillfully assembled and wrote seven "Glorious Heritage" booklets highlighting stories and thoughts from our family, past and present.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and service and though at the tender age of 16 lost her mother when she needed her the most, and at the age of 38 , lost her husband when she him needed the most, she persevered, trusting in the Lord that he would be with her. She never complained.
Her faith was an example to all. She was a perfect example of Christ like love.
Shirley loved the temple and attended weekly until just a few weeks before her death.
Her love of life, love of music, love of God and love of family will be greatly missed.
Her funeral will be held on January 3, 2020 at the Windsor 7th ward, 1405 North Main Street, Orem, Utah at 11:00 am.
