Janet Z. Elson, 93, of Mooresville, Indiana, formerly of Indianapolis, passed away on January 10, 2024. Janet was born June 22, 1930 in Hemlock, West Virginia, one of four children of Orva an and Eunice Grace (Zickefoose) Zickefoose.

Her sister, Delma Zickefoose and brothers, Damon Zickefoose and Margel Zickefoose preceded her in death.

She walked three miles to Queens to catch the bus to Buckhannon Upshur High School, graduating at age sixteen in May 1946. She then moved to Dayton, Ohio to work for Wright Patterson Air Force Base. She married Robert Elson in 1948. He preceded her in death in 2018, after 70 years of marriage.

Janet worked as an agent at Hamler Insurance in West Milton, Ohio. Janet also raised a large garden, canning and freezing vegetables every year. She was a member of Ginghamsburg (OH) Methodist Church and actively participated in their women's ministry.
After moving to Sweetwater Lake in Indiana, Janet was a faithful member of the Nashville New Life Community Church. She enjoyed her early retirement years on Sweetwater before relocating to Indianapolis to be closer to family. In Indianapolis, she was a devoted member of The Creek Church and led a neighborhood Bible study, creating all the lesson materials herself.
Janet will be remembered as a gentle, kind, and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Even as she battled dementia in her later years, she always had a sweet smile for visitors and never complained about her situation.

Janet is survived by her three children, Ann (Steven) Kotz of Cape Coral, Florida, Julie (James) Freeman of Fort Myers, Florida and Michael (Susan) Elson of Tonto Basin, Arizona. Janet has six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

Interment will take place in a private service at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood, Indiana.
