Joe graduated from Soper High School in 1953 and joined the U.S. Army in May of 1954. He served in Alaska for 18 months before it became a state. His greatest adventure in Alaska was falling through the ice and being rescued by a helicopter.
When he came home from the service he started working on the Baskett Ranch at Kent and worked there until 1976. He then went to work for Campbell Soup in Paris, TX retiring in 1996.
Joe had a vast knowledge of working cattle. He could ride the pastures and spot a sick cow when no one else could. He married Frances Wilson on December 3, 1960 at Kent Baptist Church, Kent, OK. They were married for 58 years and 5 days. Joe was a loving husband and father who worked hard to take care of his family. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church of Hugo.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents. He was also preceded in death by siblings, Wayne Branton, Retha Lane, Merlin "Moley" Branton, Altha Gurley, Glenn Branton, Joyce Smith and Gayle Branton.
Survivors include: his wife, Frances Branton; daughters, Rhonda Sue Wren and husband, Terry of Hugo, OK, Sandra Kay Godbey and husband, Marty John of Hugo, Donna Jo Branton of Hugo and Susan Renee Lawrence and husband, Tony of Rattan, OK;
Grandchildren, Alex Wren and wife, Lauren, Ashlie Wisener and husband, Daniel, Lane Wren, Jace Branton, Kyle Israel, Shania Lawrence, and Caden Lawrence; great grandson, Shepard Wren; sister in law, Jean Branton of Jones, OK; several nieces and nephews along with many other relatives and friends.
