Robert Montgomery Flanakin was the son of Isaiah Flanakin. His mother is unknown although thought to be a "Montgomery."
Robert M. Flanakin married Matilda Clara Watkins (Memorial #219260344) circa 1854 in Louisiana, probably Sabine Parish where he lived throughout his life. He is found in records there from 1843-1870. The following records are found. Sabine Parish, Conveyance Book A., Page 14, September 13, 1843, Isaiah Flanagin and Mary Grubbs widow, being of sound mind and knowing the uncertainty of life that our illegitimate children, Sarah, Robert Montgomery, John Sneedy, and Isaiah Lee, we wish them adopted as our lawful heirs those being the only heirs of our bodies. Signed Isaiah Flanakin, Mary Flanakin, witnesses N. J. Alford and William Maines. Recorded September 20, 1843, W. R. D. Speight Notary Public. Isaiha Flanakin and Mrs. Mary Grubbs married September 12, 1843 in Sabine Parish, his second wife. The above-mentioned conveyance record was one day after their marriage and was most likely done to protect inheritance should either person die.
16 Dec. 1880. Matilda Flanakin, widow of R.M. Flanakin, as tutrix of her minors, not named, sold land. Conveyance Bk. J. p. 524-525.
According to census records, Robert M. and Matilda C. Watkins Flanakin had 7 children, 6 of whom have been found.
