E. E. BEARD, farmer, P.O., Arenzville; was born in Augusta County, Va., Sept. 5, 1848, and is a son of John C. and Mary A. (Bates) Beard, natives of Virginia. John C. Beard, who was a farmer, died March, 1881; his wife is still living; they had thirteen children. The subject of this sketch received his education in this precinct [Arenzville], where he began life as a farmer, and where he has since pursued that occupation. he married, in this county, Oct. 7, 1875, Julia Berry, a native of Jersey County, Ill., and daughter of David and Hannah Berry. Mr. and Mrs. Beard are the parents of three children: Clarence A., Grace and John E. Mr. Beard is a member of Arenzville Lodge No. 481, I. O. O. F.; in politics he is a Democrat. His father came to this country twenty-seven years ago.
