Services Held Here for Lillie Davis


Funeral services were held at the Central Baptist Church at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, Jan 20, 1962, for Mrs. Lillie Ollie Davis, 86 who died January 18, at the Luling Hospital. Interment followed in the city cemetery with Rev. C. B. Hall officiating.


Pallbearers were, Mike Clay, George D. Wilson Jr., Stanley Dean Chipman, Billy Murry Chipman, Pat Norwood and Tom Meyers, her grandsons.


Mrs. Davis was born July18,1875, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. J. A. Daniel who lived in Hopkins County, TX. The family which included Mrs. Davis and five brothers and three sisters who preceded her in death moved to Gonzales during her teens. There she met and married Washington Franklin Davis who preceded her in death July 19, 1939, on January 29, 1896 they moved to Luling October 2, 1912.


Mrs. Davis was converted to Christianity early in life and was a lifelong member of the Baptist Church. She was a charter member of the Central Baptist Church here.


Survivors include three children, Mrs. Francis Clay and Mrs. George D. Wilson of Luling TX and Mrs. Murray Chipman of Arlington, eleven grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. Three children preceded her in death.


Here from out of town for the services were Mr. and Mrs. Murray Chipman, Billy Murray Chipman, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Burk and Debbie, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Meyer of Arlington, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Chipman of Roscoe; Mr. Bill Dennard and sons of Rising Star, Mrs. J. W. Scarborough Jr. of Prairie Village, Kansas; Mrs. W. G. Thompson and Liz of Chalmette, La; Mr. and Mrs. George D. Wilson Jr., Susan and Sherron Dillman of Baytown; Mrs. Fred Dillmann and Lynn Marshall of Smiths Point; Knox Smith of Electra; Martin Smith of Knox City; Mr. and Mrs. O. D Daniel of Portland, Mrs. Frankie Davis, Joe G. Davis, Mike Clay of San Antonio; Mr. and Mrs. Pat Norwood and Patti of Leesville, La; Mrs. Betty Fay of Edna; Joe, Fay, Betty, Hass of Corpus Christi, Mr. and Mr. Jeff Davis of Waelder, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Housen and Ethel Chipman of Seguin.
