Professional Baseball Player. Born Lawrence Edward Miggins he was an outfielder and first baseman who was a remarkable player in Major League Baseball, having played for the St. Louis Cardinals during the 1948 and 1952 seasons. He was signed by the New York Giants in 1944 and was assigned to Double-A Jersey City, which was then the top farm system affiliate of the Giants. Despite his baseball career being interrupted late in the year he entered service in the United States Merchant Navy during World War II, he rejoined Jersey City in 1946. He was the starting third baseman for the Jersey City Giants in 1946, and in 1947, he was obtained by the Cardinals in the Rule 5 draft. During his two seasons at St. Louis, He posted a .227 batting average in 43 games. He also played nine seasons of Minor League ball between 1944 and 1954. After his baseball career, he earned his master's degree from Sam Houston State, worked in the U.S. Probation and Parole office in Houston, and also served as a baseball coach for his alma mater. In 2003, he was inducted into the Texas Baseball Hall of Fame. He passed away at the age of 98, leaving behind a legacy that will be remembered forever.
