Nancy Jane Billings was born to James Billings and Darkis Toliver in Richland County IL on 9 Aug 1865. She moved with her family to Crawford County, Kansas, where she married Andrew Jackson Dalton on 25 Dec 1882. She had five children with Andrew before his death in 1891. After his death she cared for her aunt, also named Nancy, wife of Abraham B. Mitchell. After her aunt died a year later, she married Mitchell, 10 May 1892. The couple had one child before their marriage ended. She moved with her six children to Benton County, AR. She died in Neosho, MO, on 13 Jun 1897, after falling ill on a trip to see her sister in Baxter Springs KS. Her orphaned children were returned to Crawford County, KS, by siblings of Andrew Dalton and raised by them in that county.
