Succumbs At His Home Following Short Illness
Clarence R. Nahm, 70, died at 1 o'clock this morning at his home, 615 East Main street, following a short illness.
The funeral cortege will leave Friday morning for Louisville where services will be held at 3 o'clock Friday afternoon at Adath Israel cemetery where interment will be made in the Nahm family lot. Services will be conducted by Rabbi Joseph Rauch.
Mr. Nahm was born in Bowling Green March 21 1874, a son of Mose and Adelia Rosenthal Nahm.
He attended city schools and Ogden college and was graduated from Vanderbilt University Dental school. He practiced in Bowling Green for a short time before entering with his brother, the late Floyd Nahm, the firm of Nahm Brothers, which was one of Bowling Green's leading dry goods and ready-to-wear stores for many years. The firm was established in 1866 by Mr. Nahm's father, Mose Nahm, who came to Bowling Green by river from Jeffersonville, Ind, in 1863.
The firm was operated as Nahm and Jackson with John W. Jackson as a partner until 1873 when the latter's interest was purchased by Ben Nahm, a brother of the founder. From 1871 until 1932 when the business was discontinued, the store was located in the Getty building on Main street where the Western Auto Company is now.
Following discontinuance of the dry goods store, Mr. Nahm and his brother established Nahm Brothers Insurance Agency which he had continued to operated since the death of Floyd Nahm, May 11, 1939.
Mr. Nahm was married to Miss Clara Wright of Carrollton, Ky., Dec 27, 1933, who survives him.
He was a cousin to Fred Nahm and Max B. Nahm, both of this city.
Mr. Nahm was a member of Bowling Green Lodge No. 320 B. P. O. E.
Mr. Nahm suffered a heart attack Saturday at his office and was moved to his home. He suffered a second attack last night shortly before his death.
