John Charles Brantley, merchant and planter, died at 11 o'clock yesterday morning at his home in Lake Cormorant, Miss., following an illness of 10 days. He was 68 years of age. A native of Yazoo County, Miss., Mr. Brantley was reared in Hot Springs. Following his marriage to Miss Annie Archer, daughter of the late A.B. Archer Sr., wealthy planter of Archerletta, Miss., Mr. Brantley entered the mercantile business in Cruger and Marksville, Miss. In 1903 he moved to Lake Cormorant where he continued in the mercantile business. At one time he was connected with the old Forsdick-Brantley Bros. Hat Company of Memphis. Surviving are his wife and seven children: Misses Florence L. and Louise, A.B. and George L. Brantley, all of Lake Cormorant, Mrs. Edward Bussey, Greenville, Miss., J.C. Brantley Jr. and Mrs. J.W. McIngvale of Memphis; and a brother, A.H. Brantley of Sacramento, Cal. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at the National Funeral Home. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be: Joe Blythe, J.D. Smith, O.L. Cox, C.G. Riggins, W.B. Cody, Mr. Toler, W.B. Irby Jr., and W.M. Arnold. Honorary pallbearers will be: J.P. Norfleet, Tom Love, Hugh Foster, F.T. Withers, R.R. Jones, Radford Vest, R.E. Buford and E.W. Whitaker.
