Mrs.John Gorman Dies

Mrs. John Gorman, 80, resident of Woodson County for over 43 years, died Saturday, December 14, 1940 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ben Hollingsworth, three miles northwest of Yates Center.

Mrs. Gorman came to Woodson county in 1897 and settled on a farm six miles northeast of Toronto with her husband and family. Mr. Gorman died in 1934. She is survived by three sons: Charles Andrew, Earl and Edwin Allan Gorman: and one daughter Edna Hollingsworth.

Alice Allan was born at Drexal, Mo., April 25, 1869, where she lived on a farm and attended the school of that community.

She was married to John Gorman on April 25, 1879. Four children were born to this union, namely: Charles Andrew, Earl, Edwin Allan, and Mrs. Edna Hollingsworth.
The family came to Woodson county about 43 years ago and bought a home ten miles west of Yates Center, on and near which place she live until the death of her companion, October 9, 1934.

She made her home for the last two years with her daughter, Edna, where she passed away Dec. 14, 1940, at the age of 80 years, 8 months and 19 days.

In 1912 she, with her husband, united with the United Brethren church of Quincy, Kans., and were loyal and faithful in all their church relations.

Besides the four children mentioned above there remains to mourn her departure her grandchildren: Lester and Raymond Gorman, Donna, John and Roy Hollingsworth, and Junior Gorman and two great-grandchildren Vernon and Wayne Gorman.

Mrs. Gorman was a kind and loving mother and in her 43 years as a resident of Woodson county her kindness her consideration of others, her generous conduct endeared her to all her neighbors and acquaintances.

The songs, "In the Garden", "No Night There" and "Rock of Ages" were sung by Cleo Mae Foote and Denzil Philo. Pallbearers were Henry O'Neal, Wm. Schooling, John Williams, Albert Roglin, Wm. Wolff and E. E. Mentzer. Services were in charge of Rev. R. L. Williams of the Yates Center Baptist Church. Interment was in Quincy Cemetery.
