Christina Margaretta McCurdy Sloter, 77, passed away on November 24, 2023, at Marietta Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. Christina was born in Marietta, Ohio to Thomas and Sara Eleanor McCurdy on November 21, 1946. She attended Gilman United Methodist Church as a girl and was a 1964 graduate of Marietta High School.

Christina married the late C. Larry Sloter in 1964 and together they produced three children, M. Scott Sloter of Marietta, Kate Maxon of Marietta, and the late Lora Moore.

Christina was devoted to her children and a second mom to all of their friends. Everyone was always welcome in Christina's home. She had the softest heart and radiated love. She was most often found at her dining room table with her nose in a book. She was a voracious reader. But when anyone sat down with her, she became their confidant, with her keen listening ear and no hint of judgment. She would impart solid advice you could always count on.

She worked several jobs in her lifetime. She was a cook at the Busy Bee Restaurant, and Assistant Manager at Video Update. Though her favorite job was "Lunch Lady" for AVI at Washington Elementary School. She loved children. All children. Although she came from meager means, she kept a change jar in the school kitchen, and would supplement any child who could not afford their lunch.

Christina especially relished her role as "Grandma Chris" to her seven beloved grandchildren. She loved spending time with them reading, singing, and playing. She was very special to all of them.

Christina also had an enormous soft spot for animals. She had many dogs and cats over the years that were as spoiled as her grandchildren. She fed many feral animals over the years because in her presence, no animal or child should suffer.

Christina was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Eleanor McCurdy, a brother, Thomas McCurdy, and a sister, Karen Burton. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Lora Moore.

Christina is survived by a son, M. Scott Sloter of Marietta and a daughter, Kate (Dustin) Maxon of Marietta. She is also survived by a brother, Jon (Kathy) McCurdy of Morgantown, WV, a sister, Joanna (Ron) Lupardus of Layman, Ohio and sister-in-law Martha McCurdy of New Kensington, PA.

She is survived by her seven beloved grandchildren. Ethan, Asher, Owen, and Ella Maxon and Berkley, Max, and Hudson Moore.

They were the lights of her life.

There will be no public service. There will be a small family memorial at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Washington County Humane Society in Christina Sloter's name.
