Ruth was the daughter of Eugene Field BLANCHARD and Adelle Elizabeth STROHMEIER. Ruth grew up in Washington, D.C., graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1951 before going to University of Wisconsin, Madison. On June 12, 1955, in Madison, she married Russell UHRENHOLDT. In summer of 1955, they moved to South Bend, Indiana, and, in September 1955, she began as a kindergarten teacher in Mishawaka, Indiana, at North Side School and at Twin Branch School. She had two sons and a daughter. When her children were in junior high and high school, she returned to school and completed a master's degree in library science. She served many years as a librarian for the Rochester City School District (Rochester, NY). She was a longtime active member at Elmgrove United Methodist Church in Rochester, a Girl Scout Leader, a member of Silver Squares and Copycats Western Square Dance Club, and a volunteer at Unity Hospital. She enjoyed biking, camping, reading, canoeing, cross country skiing, gardening, feeding birds, and going to the theater. In the words of her family, "She lived life to the fullest."

She was survived by her husband, two sons, a daughter, five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
