Naomi Lee Curtis Hering, 87, of McGregor, died Tuesday, May 13, 2008, in Waco. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, May 16, at First United Methodist Church of McGregor, 500 South Madison Street, under the direction of Cole Funeral Home, 1113 West Fifth Street, McGregor, with the Rev. Lianne Turner officiating. Interment will follow at Roberts Cemetery in Troy. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 15, at Cole Funeral Home.

Naomi Lee was born in Troy, Texas, to Owen Southerland and Myrtle Lee (Carpenter) Curtis. She attended school in Troy and was salutatorian of the class of 1937. She married Albert William "Bill" Hering Jr. in Temple on Oct. 2, 1940. After living in Temple and Uvalde, the Herings settled in McGregor in 1950, where they were very active in the First United Methodist Church. Mrs. Hering served on many church committees, was treasurer of the United Methodist Women for many years and was a Sunday School teacher in several classes, including the Homebuilders Class. For over 30 years, she was employed by Irene's Flowers, retiring in 1985. After retirement, the Herings enjoyed traveling with friends in the Heart of Texas Trailer Club.

Preceding her in death was her husband of 62 years, Bill; her parents; a brother, A.H. Curtis; and an infant son, William Curtis Hering.

Survivors include sons, Phillip Lloyd Hering and wife, Deedie, and William Gary Hering and wife, Molly, of Waco; grandsons, Curtis Thomson Hering and Andrew Mason Hering, both of Austin, and William Hart Hering and wife, Charlene, of Tyler; granddaughters, Laura Hering Stowers and husband, Joe, of Houston, and Caroline Caufield Hering, of Dallas; a great-grandson, William Holden Hering, of Tyler; a sister, Ruth Curtis Harwell, of Waco; three nephews; and four nieces.

Casketbearers will be Caroline Hering, Charlene Hering, Curtis Hering, Hart Hering, Mason Hering, Joe Stowers and Laura Stowers.
