David was a captain in the Revolutionary War (NSDAR Ancestor #: A078467) serving with Colonel John Sevier and was part of the "Overmountain Men." He fought at the Battle of King's Mountain, where on Oct 7, 1780, the Overmountain Men defeated Colonel Patrick Ferguson and the British which was a turning point for the patriots in the war.
