Baptist McNabb, born in Scotland, came to America with his father, William McNabb and his brothers, John, James and Samuel about the year 1740. They are found in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia and in the Forks Community by 1742. In the year 1767, Baptist McNabb is listed as one of leading hemp growers and was certified by the county court as growing 1330 lbs. William, and sons, Baptist and John became early land owners but sold their land in Augusta County Virginia and crossed the mountains and became a part of the Watauga Settlement They were a part of the advance guard of that remarkable tribe of adventurous pioneers who, voluntarily plunged into and unknown American wilderness, set up homes and established the most remarkable government theretofore known to white people of the civilized world. Baptist had a land grant from North Carolina, Washington County of 600 acres on the west side of Buffalo Creek a branch of the Watauga and another 112 acres on the waters of Buffalo Creek joining Dave Jobes line. The maiden name of his wife is not known but she was Catherine (Katrin)
who he married in Augusta County Va. Baptist died in 1784 and Catherine is not mentioned in his Washington County will so we assume that she preceded him in death. Baptist and Katrin had 9 children
