YOAKUM: Frances Marie Morrow Walden, 90, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, November 7, 2023. She was born August 22, 1933 in Stratton to Sidney and Lucy (Myers) Morrow.

Frances cherished her time growing up with her four siblings at Stratton. She was the youngest child in the family. She loved her siblings with all her heart, and shared many fond memories of her childhood with her children and grandchildren.

Frances graduated at age 16 from Yoakum High School. After a trip to UIL State in shorthand, her superintendent thought she would make a fine employee so she went to work for him after graduation. He then encouraged her to apply for jobs in Victoria and she moved to DuPont at a young age to join the typing pool. She worked as a secretary at DuPont and later worked in Civil Service in San Antonio. Frances met her beloved husband, Bill, through the efforts of their church family and they married after a very brief courtship. Their "two weeks of dating" became part of the family lore, especially since they were married for 52 years. She was a pastor's wife from the beginning.

Frances loved being a wife and mother. She baked, sewed, and canned. She made her last batch of jelly from the wild grapes at Stratton in June after picking them herself. She was famous for her chocolate chip cookies and carrot cake. She loved her church family and her children and grandchildren and taught her family nothing but kindness and the importance of remaining true and faithful to the Bible's teachings.

Survivors are her daughters, Karen Barber and husband Dr. John Barber of Stratton and Lucy Murphy and husband Pat Murphy of Marble Falls; son Ron Walden and wife Cindy of Seguin; 10 grandchildren, Justin Murdock (Kirstyn), Kelly Murdock Murray (Lee), Travis Murdock (Becky), Rachel Murdock Brandt and husband Shawn, Sarah Murphy, Campbell Murphy, Garrett Walden and wife Shauna, Joshua Walden (Jessica), Courtney Walden Miller (Cole), Emilee Walden; and soon to be 14 great-grandchildren: Hailey and Connor Walden, Keaton, Wyatt, and Holden Walden, Jessa, Avery, and Cayson Miller, Wiley and Clara Murray, Natalee and Audree Murdock, Maverick Murdock and Baby Murdock in December, and Stella Brandt. She also welcomed into her heart Gray Marrs and Nathan Houk, who spent so much time with her in Marble Falls these past few months.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bill Walden (2016); sisters, Virginia Styles and Margaret Benbow; and brothers, TJ Morrow and Sterling Morrow.

Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. with Funeral Service 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 13, 2023 at Thiele Cooper Funeral Home with Elder Jeb Owen officiating. Burial to follow at Alexander Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Pilgrims Rest Primitive Baptist Church.

Arrangements by Thiele Cooper Funeral Home, 361-293-5656.
