RESIDED FIFTY YEARS IN CUSHING Death Clains Mrs. Gertrude Stoltz in Her 88th Year. Funeral Sunday Cushing, July 22, The passing of Mrs. Gertrude Stoltz is mourned by a large number of people in the community. To know her was a privilege because her happy disposition was an inspiration and brightened the way for all with whom she cam in contact. Gertrude Doney was born November 6, 1848, at Joliet, IL., at which place she spent her childhood days. Together with her parents she moved to Minnesota. After several years residence in that state she returned to Joliet. On November 6, 1869 she was united in marriage to Peter Stoltz. To this union 6 children were born. In 1886, Mrs. Stoltz with her husband and children, moved to Cushing, Iowa, where she lived until the time of her death. During the last few years she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Minnie Baumann, and her grandson, Ross Baumann. Mrs. Stoltz leaves to mourn her departure, two daughters, Mrs. Bert Hart of Correctionville, and Mrs. Minnie Baumann of Cushing: one son, J.H. Stoltz of Holstein, sixteen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, and three of her children, Ida, Emma and William. Although advanced in years, Mrs. Stoltz enjoyed good health and was very active until shortly before her death. After a week of illness her death came peacefully on the morning of July 17, 1936, at the mature age of 87 years, 8 months, and 11 days. Mrs Stoltz united with the church at an early age. She was a long time and esteemed member of the Cushing Methodist church. Her work in the Aid society will long be remembered. As long as she was able she labored gladly and devoutly in the service of the church. Mrs. Stoltz was gifted with a genial and cheerful personallity. She had learned through the various experiences of life how to possess calm faith and quiet trust in God. She knew the divine secret of life through communion with the living Christ who was her Savior and Lord. Funeral services, in charge of Rev. A.C. Long, were held at the Methodist church at two o'clock Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. H.L. Brownlee and Reynold and Alice Jand Brownlee, with Mrs. L.M. Wallace at the piano, sang "When I get to the End of the Way" and "Rock of Ages" Alice Jane also sand "The Pearly City." The pallbearers were Will Kurtz, John Henrichsen, Giles Stoneking, J.G. Johnson, J.B. Johnson and Ferd Hummel, Sr. Interment was in the Cushing Cemetery.
