Wilbur was the 2nd child and oldest son of Walter Leake Brockman Jr and Adeline Smith Brockman. In 1900, when the family was living in Des Moines, Iowa, he was a 21 year old day laborer living at home with his parents.

His other siblings were: Wavelette Brockman Moll, John Crawford Brockman, Clive W. Brockman, Bertha Isabel Brockman, Claude Irl Brockman, Cecilia Irene Brockman, Walter Clayton Brockman, Charles Conner Brockman, and Harold W. Brockman.

Wilbur lost one brother in 1893 who was only 20 months old. Another brother was killed in a ship explosion in 1905. The family left Iowa and moved to the San Francisco area after the big earthquake in 1908. His father and brothers worked as building contractors in helping to rebuild the city.

In 1910 Wilbur was a 31 year old shoemaker living with his parents in Daly City. He was still working as a shoemaker in 1920 and sharing a home with his parents. His mother died in 1925.

By 1930 he was living on his own in Daly City at 51 years old and owned his own shoe shop. Things must have taken a turn for the worse for him during the Depression because by 1940 he was a 61 year old janitor working for the WPA project at the time.

Wilbur died in 1947 at the age of 68 and is buried with his parents, Walter and Adeline.
