Daniel L. Eccles, age 87, of Linton, passed away peacefully at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at Greene County General Hospital in Linton with his family by his side. He was born in Howesville on July 23, 1936, the son of Robert M. and Thelma E. (Drake) Eccles.

Dan retired as a Colonel of the Army National Guard following 35 years of service with the 38th Infantry Division, retiring in 1992. He worked at NSWC Crane as an electronics technician for 30 years and retired in 1992.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 22, VFW Associate Auxiliary, the Moose Lodge and the F & AM Masonic Lodge 560, all of Linton. Other memberships include the Scottish Rite and Zorah Shrine, both of Terre Haute, and the Greene County Shrine Club.

He enjoyed St. Louis Cardinal baseball, Linton Miner and Indianapolis Colts football, NASCAR, farming and spending time with his family.

Dan is survived by his wife of 37 years, Ramona M. (Rankin) Eccles; a son, Daniel O. Eccles of Linton; two daughters, Sandy (Ed) Woods of Linton and Sherry (Robin) Wikle of Bloomfield; step-son, Rodney Porter of New Mexico; step-daughter, Anita Kuhn of Florida; eleven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bobby Eccles and Larry Eccles and a sister, Florence Evelyn Eccles.

Funeral service will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 4, 2023 with Pastor Phillip Turner officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Linton.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to 38th Division Association through the funeral home.
