Calvin Wayne Owenby, 67, passed away on October 26, 2023, at the Solace Center in Asheville.

A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Jay Samuel Owenby and Hallie Mashburn Owenby. He worked for Pet Dairy, Enka Plant, Town of Canton, and Champion International as a rewinder operator. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and mechanic work but mostly spending time with all of his family.

He is preceded in death by his wife Pamela Pless Owenby, passing exactly six years to the date earlier. They were married 43 years. He was also preceded by his sister Betty Smith and three brothers, Melvin, Marvin, and David Owenby, all of Canton.

He is survived by his two daughters Kristy Heatherly (Jeff) and Tammy Leatherwood (Kevin); five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; brother, Marshall Owenby (Ruth); sisters, Luzean Russell, Rosa Mae Brown, and Hazel Macemore (John) all of Canton; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends whom he loved all very dearly.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2 pm, Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at Smoky Mountain Cremations and Funeral Service. The family will receive friends from 1-2 prior to the service. Burial will follow at Gwyn Cemetery in Cruso.
