Rich was born to Ed and Elda Peters and grew up on a farm near Talmage, Nebraska. He was the youngest of three sons who were raised with values of family, hard work, and community. He worked every aspect of the family farm and participated in everything at Talmage High, distinguishing himself in athletics and music. After playing one season of basketball under Henry Iba at Oklahoma State University, his father was killed in a farming accident, and Rich returned home to help his mother organize the family farm under new management. He continued his education at UNL, where he met Elaine (Anderson), and earned his Bachelor's degree in Business. Rich worked more than 35 years in marketing and conference planning at Woodmen Accident & Life Company, and in retirement, he worked 15 years with Lincoln Public Schools Operations and Maintenance. He cherished the life-long friends he made at each of these Lincoln institutions.

Rich was a dedicated family man and an active member in his church and neighborhood communities. At Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, he sang in the choir for over 60 years and worked with the youth groups, where some of his fondest memories involved teaching scores of kids to water ski. Rich was also an active volunteer in Lincoln's youth sports community, the Eastridge Recreation Association, and at McPhee and Randolph Schools. In his free time, Rich loved biking the Lincoln trails, dancing with Elaine, traveling, boating, repairing almost anything, working in his yard, and everything involving his kids and grandkids. Cherished by his family and friends, he was loved for his kindness, patience, humor, loyalty, and eagerness to lend a helping hand. Rich's selfless character reflected his sincere Christian values.

Rich was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Don and Jerry Peters.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Elaine, his three children, Stephen of Mahomet, IL, Jennifer Jepson (Brett) of Colorado Springs, and David (Emily) of Lincoln, and six grandchildren, Edward, William, Max, and Evelyn Peters, and Ben and Hannah Jepson, several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and beloved nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 1pm Saturday, November 25, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 1200 S. 40th St, 68510 (osllincoln.org) or the Great Plains Trails Network, P.O. Box 82902, Lincoln, 68501 (gptn.org).
