Early Population Project Mission Santa Clara baptism: 03687. Godparents: Bernabela Buelna and Leocadio Martinez.
He married Juana Francisca de Gracia Galindo in 1826.
Grantee of Rancho Milpitas with Nicolas Berryessa. Berryessa lost his claim and much of his land was granted to Alviso.
Jose Maria was appointed alcalde of the Pueblo de San Jose in 1836.
According to family records, Jose Maria was buried in a crypt "in Saint Claire's" church in 1853. That crypt is now lost. It is possible he was buried at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery as that cemetery started in 1851 and this one was full. We have no way of knowing where, exactly, as the records state "in" rather than "at."
