Jesse Bowman
Last Friday, the 12th, witnessed the passing away at his home 6 miles NE of Brookhaven of the venerable Jesse Bowman, one of the oldest, if not the oldest, citizen of Lincoln County. Mr. Bowman was born in Pike County, Ms Oct 22, 1809, hence at the time of his death he was nearly 89 years of age. Most of his long life he lived in the territory now known as Lincoln County. He leaves a widow, 4 sons and a daughter. He was first married in 1834 to Miss Martha Greer, the mother of all his children, who died in 1866. He married a second time about 20 years ago to Mrs. Carlatta Neece who survives him. His death was caused by heart failure due to old age. He was buried at Union Church on Sunday.
