"Erected in Memory of James Badger, Sen.r, A Native of Boston, N.E., who departed this life on the 15th Sept.r 1817, Aged 60 years, 1 month and 15 days. At the age of 20, Mr. B. Migrated to this City. In the year 1758, he was chosen Clerk and Sexton of the Archdale Independent Church, and for 30 years atty and faithfully discharged the duties of that office. As a member of this community, he was useful. As a Husband tender, as a father affectionate, As a Master indulgent, and as a Friend sincere. As a Teacher of sacred music ___."

James Badger Sr. married Elizabeth Swint, and they were the parents of Daniel Badger, Elizabeth Rhoda Badger Haumbaum, Ann Badger, Catherine Badger, James Badger Jr., Margaret Badger, Rebecca Badger, Harriett Badger and Martha Badger. James Badger Sr. was the grandson of the famous portrait artist Joseph Badger Sr.
