George Wideman came to Canada with his parents as a young child. He is listed on the 1861 Canadian census as four years old living in the Township of Waterloo. By 1871, the family had settled in the Township of Egremont. On April 17, 1883, George married Catharina Klein, the daughter of Daniel Klein and Julianna Matzenbacher, in Egremont. George and Catharina's family included seven known children:

Daniel Christopher: 1888 - 1970; married Mabel Brooks
Mary Katherine: 1889-1988; married James William Smith
Julia Ann: 1892-1985; married Joseph Clough
Robina Elizabeth: 1894-1985; married John Murray Hockridge
Louis G: 1900-1905
Jane Mercy: 1903-1903
William Walter: 1904-1988; married Emma Louise Sachs
